Where does the Hanuman story come from?
Most retellings trace back to the Valmiki Ramayana (Sundara Kanda) and, in North India, to Tulsidas' Ramcharitmanas. Episodes also appear in the Mahabharata and in regional Ramayanas such as the Kamba Ramayanam, each with its own emphasis.
